'The Dreaded 'I' Word... (impact)

This Research into Knowledge Transfer Practice event was a fantastic success and kindly co hosted with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University. Peter Hayes MInstKT of Sheffield Hallam chaired the event and introduced a whole range of impressive speakers within the Social Sciences and a running theme for the event was the 'dreaded 'I' word - impact.

The event kicked off with an ice breaker which was led by Sheffield Hallam's Siobhan Newton encouraging delegates to enjoy the benefits of the Verbal Business Cards. Helen Woolley, an academic from the University of Sheffield was joined by Paul Collings From Timberplay Ltd. Paul and Helen have worked on a very successful Knowledge Transfer Partnership together and this presentation discusses the success to both all parties involved. Helen also took questions on her experiences of the new Shorter KTPs since being one of the first in England to receive one.

Other presentations saw Rhodri Thomas from Leeds Metropolitan University discuss experiences of being an ESRC Business Placement Fellow.

In the afteroon. Fiona Armstrong, Head of Knowledge Exchange at the Economic and Social Research Council gave an impressive and enlightening presentation on Impact.

The next presentation came from James Pinder from Positive Sum who's work with South Yorkshire Housing Association designing eco friendly homes and KTPs provided many interesting discussions about energy generation!

Our last presentation came from Professor Liz Doherty from Sheffield Hallam who showed the clear benefits that KTPs can provide to local SME's through a fresh approach to Human Resource Management.

Thanks to Jonathan Gorst & Siobhan Newton for arranging the event. For more information about the Research into Knowledge Transfer Practice series, please contact Russ Hepworth on 07595 217910.
